This arc focuses on Abby Cable as she is arrested under an animal screwing law. You see, since Swamp Thing isn't a human the DA says she is Saga of the Swamp Thing book five takes a step back from supernatural battles to tell a more character drama.

You see, since Swamp Thing isn't a human the DA says she is guilty of unnatural relations with him. Abby flees to Gotham City, only to further run afoul of the law.

When Swamp Thing comes to save her, he takes on the role of super villain as he rages and covers Gotham with vegetation. This puts him in the target of Gotham's protector, Batman.

I love Alan Moore for his thought provoking ideas. For example, when Swamp Thing turns Gotham into a new eden some of the residents return to a primal state.

Others enjoy tripping on his fruit. Others form a cult around him. Moore's Batman is softer than most, willing to back off a rigid code of justice to defend Abby and Swampy's sexual union.

How's that for social progression? At the end of the book, with seemingly no place else to take him, Moore launches Swamp Thing into the heavens.

The creature reanimates on a distant blue planet and proceeds to create a new world out of the local flora.

This idea will be later explored more fully with Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, but it is no less compelling here, especially when Swamp Thing creates a "real doll" version of Abby and self-pleasures with it.

The art is the book is top-notch. Of special note is "My Blue Heaven", where an alien landscape comes to life in a gorgeous monochromatic colors scheme to emphasize the alien.

Anthony Mathenia has read Happiness: This book covers roughly the same time period as the last, while focusing on a different set After slogging through the Feast of Crows snore-fest, I was apprehensive about A Dance With Dragons, the next brick in Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series.

This book covers roughly the same time period as the last, while focusing on a different set of characters. The difference is notable from the opening chapters.

Whereas, Feast often focused on minor characters, Dragons swoops in with fan favorites, Tyrion, Jon, Bran and Daenerys. The book succeeds just barely on the basis of these characters, which are interesting, nuanced, and entertaining.

Tyrion's quips alone tend to remedy a lagging storyline. As with Feast of Crows, there is very little plot development. The individual character quests really go nowhere.

Tyrion the imp has fled Westeros, asking "Where do whores go? Across the Narrow Sea, he tasked with a quest to get to Daenerys. After a series of adventures he never quite meets up with her, but does catch a brief glimpse -- maybe next book.

Speaking of the Mother of Dragons, instead of attempting to retake the Iron Throne, she continues to linger over the Narrow Sea, playing queen of the city of Mereen.

The city is forever on the verge of a battle that never actually transpires -- maybe next book. Jon Snow, treads similar water at the Wall, where he plays Lord Commander.

It's a difficult task, dealing with Stannis, his sworn brothers, an influx of Wildlings, and a giant. We are told that the Others are coming and the Wall is the only defense, but we never quite see them -- maybe next book.

Toward the end, the book plays catch up with the main characters from the last book Arya, Cersei, Jaime, and Brienne. In effect, these scant chapters provide a needed a conclusion to their truncated story arcs from Feast of Crows.

The same mistake though is made with Dance's primary characters. The immense book feels a couple of chapters short of being complete.

It just ends, without any real climax, and with a set of characters that aren't really that much further along than when it started -- maybe next book.

A problem I continue to have with the series is that there are just so many characters to keep up with. Page after page, Martin repeatedly name drops knights, lords, sellswords, rulers, merchants, and more.

It would be easy to just gloss over them as window dressing, but occasionally these background characters to become major characters. This is the case with Roose Bolton, a Stark bannerman who takes a prominent role in this, through his bastard son, Ramsay.

This character is the new evil peg filling the dick hole left by Tywin and Joffrey. A final quibble is that hidden identity card is well overplayed.

It's tiring at this point, especially when dumped into a character chapter with an uncertain POV. Whereas, before chapters would simply be named Jon, Sansa, and Caitlyn to clue the reader in, this book opts for generic descriptions.

It makes it difficult for the reader to navigate Martin's wordy waters. These issues aside, the story is engaging enough and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Hopefully the long setup will pay-off. I'm also optimistic that the HBO companion show will help Martin streamline his story a bit, reigning it in before it wheel-of-times off a cliff.

It occurs when normal communication between the nerve and muscle is interrupted at the neuromuscular junction—the place where nerve cells connect with the muscles they control.

Neurotransmitters are chemicals that neurons, or brain cells, use to communicate information. Normally when electrical signals or impulses travel down a motor nerve, the nerve endings release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.

Acetylcholine travels from the nerve ending and binds to acetylcholine receptors on the muscle. The binding of acetylcholine to its receptor activates the muscle and causes a muscle contraction.

In myasthenia gravis, antibodies immune proteins block, alter, or destroy the receptors for acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, which prevents the muscle from contracting.

In most individuals with myasthenia gravis, this is caused by antibodies to the acetylcholine receptor itself.

However, antibodies to other proteins, such as MuSK Muscle-Specific Kinase protein, can also lead to impaired transmission at the neuromuscular junction.

These antibodies are produced by the body's own immune system. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease because the immune system—which normally protects the body from foreign organisms—mistakenly attacks itself.

The thymus is a gland that controls immune function and maybe associated with myasthenia gravis. Located in the chest behind the breast bone, the gland is largest in children.

It grows gradually until puberty, and then gets smaller and is replaced by fat. Throughout childhood, the thymus plays an important role in the development of the immune system because it is responsible for producing T-lymphocytes or T cells, a specific type of white blood cell that protects the body from viruses and infections.

In many adults with myasthenia gravis, the thymus gland remains large. People with the disease typically have clusters of immune cells in their thymus gland similar to lymphoid hyperplasia—a condition that usually only happens in the spleen and lymph nodes during an active immune response.

Some individuals with myasthenia gravis develop thymomas tumors of the thymus gland. Thymomas are most often harmless, but they can become cancerous.

The thymus gland plays a role in myasthenia gravis, but its function is not fully understood. Scientists believe that the thymus gland may give incorrect instructions to developing immune cells, ultimately causing the immune system to attack its own cells and tissues and produce acetylcholine receptor antibodies—setting the stage for the attack on neuromuscular transmission.

Although myasthenia gravis may affect any skeletal muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and swallowing are most frequently affected.

The onset of the disorder may be sudden and symptoms often are not immediately recognized as myasthenia gravis.

In most cases, the first noticeable symptom is weakness of the eye muscles. In others, difficulty swallowing and slurred speech may be the first signs.

The degree of muscle weakness involved in myasthenia gravis varies greatly among individuals, ranging from a localized form limited to eye muscles ocular myasthenia , to a severe or generalized form in which many muscles—sometimes including those that control breathing—are affected.

Myasthenia gravis affects both men and women and occurs across all racial and ethnic groups. It most commonly impacts young adult women under 40 and older men over 60 , but it can occur at any age, including childhood.

Myasthenia gravis is not inherited nor is it contagious. Occasionally, the disease may occur in more than one member of the same family.

Although myasthenia gravis is rarely seen in infants, the fetus may acquire antibodies from a mother affected with myasthenia gravis—a condition called neonatal myasthenia.

Generally, neonatal myasthenia gravis is temporary and the child's symptoms usually disappear within two to three months after birth.

Rarely, children of a healthy mother may develop congenital myasthenia. This is not an autoimmune disorder it is caused by defective genes that produce abnormal proteins in the neuromuscular junction and can cause similar symptoms to myasthenia gravis.

Because weakness is a common symptom of many other disorders, the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis is often missed or delayed sometimes up to two years in people who experience mild weakness or in those individuals whose weakness is restricted to only a few muscles.

A myasthenic crisis is a medical emergency that occurs when the muscles that control breathing weaken to the point where individuals require a ventilator to help them breathe.

Approximately 15 to 20 percent of people with myasthenia gravis experience at least one myasthenic crisis. This condition usually requires immediate medical attention and may be triggered by infection, stress, surgery, or an adverse reaction to medication.

However, up to one-half of people may have no obvious cause for their myasthenic crisis. Certain medications have been shown to cause myasthenia gravis.

However, sometimes these medications may still be used if it is more important to treat an underlying condition.

Today, myasthenia gravis can generally be controlled. There are several therapies available to help reduce and improve muscle weakness.

With treatment, most individuals with myasthenia can significantly improve their muscle weakness and lead normal or nearly normal lives.
